Özet
Bu tezin konusu, Strawson'ın Descartes'ın zihin felsefesine karşı geliştirdiği eleştirisidir. Bu konu kapsamında Descartes'ın zihin felsefesinin açıklanabilmesi için öncelikle onun epistemolojisine ve ontolojisine yer verilmiştir. Descartes doğru bilgiye şüphe yöntemiyle ulaşmayı amaçlamıştır. Şüphe aynı zamanda hakikate ulaşmak için atılacak ilk adımdır. Descartes hakikatin Tanrısal bir yanı olduğunu ve kişinin ancak sezgi sayesinde buna ulaşabileceğini açıklanmıştır. Bu temel girişin ardından Descartes'ın düalizminin nasıl ortaya çıktığı ve bu problemin Descartes tarafından eksik bırakılan kısımları ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümünde Descartes'ın zihin beden probleminin bir uzantısı olan 'kişilik' kavramını nasıl var ettiğinin, kişinin bilinç durumlarını nasıl ele aldığının ve birinci tekil kişinin, topluluk içinde öteki kişilerle olan etkileşiminin sonuçlarından bahsedilmiştir. Bu bağlamda Descartes'ın öteki kişiler ve birinci tekil kişi hakkında belirsiz ve eksik ifadelerde bulunduğu ve yorumcuların bu konudaki Descartes'ın kuramını tamamlayan ya da karşı çıkan açıklamaları ele alınmıştır. Tezin üçüncü bölümünde ise Strawson'ın 'Individuals' adlı kitabında ele aldığı 'kişi' kavramı üzerinden Descartes' a olan eleştirisi ele alınmıştır. Strawson kişi kavramını diğer kişilere atıfta bulunabilme imkanı üzerinden kurmuştur. Atıfta bulunma kişinin sadece bilinç durumları üzerinden değil aynı zamanda bedeni üzerinden de gerçekleştirilen bir durumdur. Descartes'ın kişiyi var ederken özneyi öne çıkarması ve bedenin gerekliliği konusunda şüpheye düşmesi Strawson'ın kişilik kavramına aykırıdır. Ona göre kişinin benliği, bedeni ve diğer kişilerin varlığı ile mümkün olmaktadır.

The subject of this thesis is Strawson's criticism of Descartes' philosophy of mind. In this framework, Descartes' epistemology and ontology are given precedence in order to explain his philosophy of mind. Descartes sought to arrive at the true knowledge using the method of doubt. Doubt is also the first step to reaching the truth. Descartes argued that the truth has a celestial side and that one can only reach the truth through intuition. Following this brief introduction, firstly, how Descartes' dualism emerged and then the parts of this problem that were left unresolved by Descartes were discussed. In the second chapter of the thesis, how Descartes created the concept of 'personality', which is an extension of the mind-body problem, how the individual's states of consciousness are handled, and the results of the first person's interaction with other people in the community are mentioned respectively. In this context, Descartes' ambiguous and incomplete statements about other persons and the first person, and then the explanations of other commentators that complement or contradict Descartes' theory are discussed. In the third chapter of the thesis, Strawson's criticism of Descartes through the concept of“person”in his book“Individuals”was discussed. Strawson established the concept of person through the possibility of referring to other people. Attribution is a situation that is realized not only through the consciousness of the person, but also through the body. Descartes emphasizing the subject while creating the person and doubting the necessity of the body goes against Strawson's concept of 'person'. According to him, one's self is made possible by his body and the existence of other people
