Özet
Mezopotamya, tarihi boyunca birbirinden değerli medeniyetlere ev sahipliği yapan, zengin kültürel birikimin temellerinin atıldığı verimli bir coğrafyadır. Eskiçağ tarihi içerisinde, bölgenin tarihi akışına yön veren devletler, bu verimli topraklarda yaşamanın bedeli olarak sayısız göç ve istilalar ile karşılaşmış olup, çok yönlü etkileriyle mücadele etmek zorunda kalmıştır. Döngüsel niteliğe bürünen bu tehditler, etkili bir savunma sistemi kurmayı gerekli kılarken, politikaları doğrultusunda bölgenin hakimi olmak isteyenler için, bu sistemi yıkmanın yolları eş zamanlı bir şekilde geliştirilmiştir. Saldırı ve savunma amaçlı her türlü ekipmanın, dönemin en şiddetli savaşlarına sahne olan Mezopotamya topraklarında kullanılmış ve geliştirilmiş olması şaşırtıcı değildir. Siyasi dengelerin sıklıkla değiştiği ve bölgesel gelişme dinamiklerinin politikalara yön verdiği bu coğrafyada, saldırı ve savunma çarkı birbirine paralel ilerlemiştir. Siyasi, ekonomik ve askeri politikaların doruk noktasına ulaştığı MÖ I. binyılda, mücadelenin galibi olmak ve bunu sürdürmek Mezopotamya'da öne çıkan devletlerin hedefi haline gelmiştir. Dönemin siyasetinde söz sahibi olmak, hakimiyet ve otoritelerine sağlam zemin oluşturmak için, birbirini tamamlayan faktörleri devreye sokmak zorunlu hale gelmiştir. Savunma sistemleri, saldırı silahları, savunma ekipmanları ve koruma-caydırma unsurları, mücadelenin galibi olmak ve bunu sürdürmek için geliştirilmesi gereken temel bileşenlerdir. Söz konusu unsurların evrenselliğini göz önünde bulundurarak, Mezopotamya'da tesis edilme ve geliştirilme sürecindeki faktörleri, MÖ I. binyılda büründüğü yeni rollere de değinerek bir kesit sunmayı hedefledik. Bu anlamda Mezopotamya'da var olmanın iki temel unsuru olan saldırı ve savunmayı, kendi başlıkları adı altında ele almaya çalıştık. Gerek yazılı belgelerden gerek arkeolojik kaynaklardan yola çıkarak hazırladığımız çalışmanın, ileride bu konuda yapılacak olan çalışmalara ışık tutacağı kanaatindeyiz. Bilim Kodu : 1108

Mesopotamia is a fertile geography that has hosted many valuable civilizations throughout its history and where the foundations of rich cultural accumulation were laid. In ancient history, the states that steered the historical flow of the region faced numerous migrations and invasions as the price of living in these fertile lands and had to struggle with their multifaceted effects. While these cyclical threats necessitate the establishment of an effective defence system, ways to overthrow this system have been developed simultaneously for those who want to become the ruler of the region in line with their policies. It is not surprising that all kinds of equipment for offensive and defensive purposes were used and developed in Mesopotamia, which was the scene of the fiercest wars of the period. In this geography, where political balances frequently change and regional development dynamics direct policies, the wheels of attack and defence have progressed parallel to each other. In the 1st millennium BC, when political, economic and military policies reached their peak, being the winner of the struggle and maintaining it became the goal of the prominent states in Mesopotamia. In order to have a say in the politics of the period and to establish a solid ground for their dominance and authority, it has become necessary to introduce factors that complement each other. Defence systems, offensive weapons, defence equipment and protection-deterrence elements are the basic components that need to be developed in order to be the winner of the struggle and to maintain it. Considering the universality of these elements, we aimed to present a crosssection by addressing the factors in the establishment and development process in Mesopotamia and the new roles they assumed in the 1st millennium BC. In this sense, we tried to deal with attack and defence, which are the two basic elements of existence in Mesopotamia, under their own headings. We believe that this study, which we have prepared based on both written documents and archaeological sources, will shed light on future studies on this subject. Science Code : 1108
