Özet

This study aims to understand the possible contributions of Instagram, an online extension of new media, to the concepts of women's empowerment through user content. In other words, what kind of content is shared on Instagram to construct women's empowerment and how this content contributes to women's empowerment politically, economically, psychologically, and socio-culturally for women and women's communities on Instagram is analysed. Given that this study examines women's empowerment messages presented through Instagram profiles, content analysis, a qualitative approach, was used in the study. In order to better understand the content on women's empowerment, the study analysed Turkish posts that interacted on the Instagram platform. A non-random, purposive sample of accounts with at least 50,000 followers that post about women, women's empowerment, women's movements, and women's communities were selected. For each category of women's empowerment, 5 images were analysed. It is aimed to analyse 20 contents that adequately represent women's empowerment for the purpose.
