Özet
The importance of energy, which is seen as a crucial element in many industries, from agriculture to tourism, from health to the defense industry, is increasing day by day and governments are developing policies in this field to raise or maintain their welfare levels. As this thesis demonstrates, states that desire to strike a balance between fossil fuel and renewable energy sources, which both have advantages and disadvantages, adopt energy subsidies as a tool for policymaking. Unfortunately, these subsidies do not always achieve their purpose and may even harm the state in economic, environmental and social aspects. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the effects of fossil fuel and sustainable energy subsidies, which states use to create balance in the market, on the economy, social conditions, political position and environmental goals. The numerical statistics for the incentive policies established by Germany, which was chosen owing to its market position in the energy sector, were presented, as well as the impact of the above-mentioned consequences on Germany. The last segment discussed the challenges to resolve the energy transition issue, which has been on Germany's political agenda for many years, as well as ideas for improving the subsidy reform. This thesis is presented as 4 chapters. In the second and third parts of this thesis, the main subject is explained and examples from all over the world are given, while in the fourth part, Germany, which is a case study, is discussed.
