A biometric system is a technological system that uses information about a person to identify that person. Depending on the area of use (e.g. border controls, law enforcements, access control systems, authentication systems and more), there is an increasing demand for secure identification and authentication systems nowadays. Biometrics is one of the most rapidly emerging key technologies which provide solutions for all kind of security and identification problems. Moreover, according to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)1 technology review, the topic of“Paying with Your Face”is in the top ten breakthrough technologies of 2017. In another word, it shows that biometric systems will be applied in many different areas of our lives. Although biometrics is a rather new field we already see a huge trend in the spectrum of biometric algorithms, sensors, biometric standards, protocols and biometric applications. That is why there is a tremendous need for systematic methodical biometric education for students, as well as for systematic research and development. Since there are quite a few challenges and many open questions, especially regarding, the multibiometric solutions there are some points to prevent some biometric difficulties (e.g. accuracy, noises, imprecisions in the decision-making processes). Thereby, the multibiometric systems fusion topics play a critical role to make a better decision. Consequently, this thesis will investigate the biometric from a large aspect in order to compose a biometric laboratory with the hardware and software components. Therefore, a biometric-based system architecture will be developed to use for academic purposes (e.g. education, research, development).
