Özet

Today, smartphones have become a common part of our everyday life. In twenty-first century's technology age, people has started to do all their stuffs by using smartphones. However, the usage of smartphones has increased rapidly in recent years and this has brought about addiction. This study examined the smartphone addiction and its' relationship with depression and impulsivity on 231 students from Sivas Cumhuriyet University in Turkey. Turkish Version of Smartphone Addiction Scale Short-Version (SAS-SV), Beck Depression Inventory-II and Barratt Impulsivity Scale-11 used for assessing smartphone addiction, depression and impulsivity. Pearson correlation coefficient was revealed that smartphone addiction was significantly associated with depression and impulsivity. Also, significant differences found between smartphone addiction scores and average usage times of smartphone (before sleep, after awakening and in a day). Reducing smartphone usage times and using it for a specific purpose can be a solution to prevent addiction. Besides that, the possibilities of depression and impulsivity should be considered in smartphone addiction.
