Özet
Atık oluşumunda tekstil ve konfeksiyon sektörünün katkısı büyüktür. Yıllardır süregelen bir çelişki içerisindedir. Hızlı üretimi gerçekleştirip aynı zamanda çevreyi korumak için planlar, proje ve hedefler hazırlamaktadır. Anlamlı bir sürdürülebilir mücadelesi için üretici, tüketici ve geri dönüşüm zincirlerinin birlikte hareket etmesi gerekmektedir. Hazır giyim sektörünün üretimi içerisinde yer alan çocuk giysileri, çocukların fiziksel gelişimlerinden dolayı ortaya çıkan hızlı ihtiyaç ve tüketim sonucunda atık oluşumuna katkı sağlamaktadır. Elle tutulur bir sürdürülebilirliğe katkı için bu çalışmada çocuk giysilerinin ömrünü uzatmak, ileri dönüşüm (upcycle) yöntemleri ile giysiyi birkaç sezon daha giyilebilir hale getirmek amaçlanmıştır. 3-4 yaşında alınan bir giysiyi çocuk büyüdüğünde 5-6 yaşında da modüler parçaların eklenmesiyle giyebilecek ve giysi kullanım süresini uzatmış olacaktır. Giysilerin 3-4 yaştan 5-6 yaşa dönüşebilmesi için en genişletme ve boy uzatma işlemleri yapılmıştır. Örneklem olarak 7 adet kız giysi türü, etek, elbise, body, jile, şort, tayt, yelek seçilmiştir. Küçülen bu giysiler ileri dönüşüm ve modüler parça teknikleri ile 5-6 yaşa uyumlu hale getirilmiştir. Yöntemde nitel araştırmaya dayalı tasarım tabanlı uygulama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda, hızlı gelişim dönemlerinde kısa süreli kullanılan çocuk giysilerinin kullanım ömrünü uzatarak atık oluşumunu önleyici ileri dönüşüm örnekleri sunulmaktadır. 3-4 ve 5-6 yaş dönemlerince giyilebilen ve çocukların ilgisini çekebilecek değişimler sergileyen tasarımlar oluşturulmuştur. Çocuk giyim sektörünün tasarım aşamasında bu çalışma örneklerinden faydalanarak sürdürülebilir giysi tasarımları üretebilecekleri önerilmektedir. Ayrıca sektörün artık malzemelerini değerlendirmelerinde, kumaş atıklarından en genişletici ve boy uzatıcı modüler parçalar oluşturarak üretimde de atık oluşumunu azaltabilecekleri önerilmektedir.

The contribution of the textile and apparel industry to waste generation is significant and has been embroiled in a longstanding contradiction. While aiming to achieve rapid production, the sector also strives to develop plans, projects, and goals for environmental protection. For a meaningful sustainability effort, it is essential for producers, consumers, and recycling chains to act in unison. Children's clothing, as part of the ready-to-wear sector, contributes to waste generation due to the rapid need for and consumption of such items caused by children's physical growth. To make a tangible contribution to sustainability, this study aims to extend the lifespan of children's clothing and make garments wearable for additional seasons using upcycling methods. For example, a garment purchased for a child aged 3–4 can be modified with modular additions so that it can still be worn when the child grows to 5–6 years, thus prolonging the usage period of the garment. To enable this transformation from 3–4 years to 5–6 years, processes such as widening and lengthening have been applied. As samples, seven types of girls' clothing—skirts, dresses, bodysuits, pinafores, shorts, leggings, and vests—were selected. These garments, which had become too small, were adapted for children aged 5–6 using upcycling and modular techniques. The research utilized a design-based application model based on qualitative methods. As a result, the study presents upcycling examples that help prevent waste by extending the lifespan of children's clothing, particularly those used during rapid growth periods. Designs were created that could appeal to children and be worn during both the 3–4 and 5–6 age ranges. It is recommended that the children's clothing sector draw on these examples in the design phase to produce sustainable garment designs. Additionally, the sector is encouraged to utilize leftover materials and fabric waste by creating modular components for widening and lengthening garments, thereby reducing waste in production as well.
