Özet
Amaç: Bu araştırma, 6. sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde eğitsel oyunların öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına, derse karşı tutumlarına ve değer kazandırmaya etkisini belirlemeyi amaçlamıştır. Yöntem: Karma araştırma yaklaşımlarından gömülü desene göre tasarlanan bu çalışmanın nicel kısmı, ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2023-2024 eğitim-öğretim yılında Giresun'un Şebinkarahisar ilçesindeki bir ortaokulda, 6. sınıfta öğrenim gören 60 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Deneysel tasarım için seçkisiz olarak bir sınıf deney grubu (n=30) ve diğer sınıf ise kontrol grubu (n=30) olarak belirlenmiştir.“Tarihe Yolculuk”ve“Yeryüzünde Yaşam”üniteleri eğitsel oyun etkinlikleriyle (DG) ve mevcut program etkinlikleriyle (KG) öğretilmiştir. Nicel veriler için Akademik Başarı Testi (ABT) ve Sosyal Bilgiler Dersine Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği (SBDTÖ) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel boyutunda ise uygulama sürecinin öğrenci görüşleri kapsamında değerlendirilmesi için yansıtıcı günlükler ve değer gözlem formları kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Mevcut program etkinliklerinin uygulandığı kontrol grubu ile eğitsel oyun etkinliklerinin uygulandığı deney grubunun akademik başarı test puanları arasında deney grubu lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin derse yönelik tutum puanlarında fark gözlenmezken, deney grubunda anlamlı düzeyde bir atış gözlenmiştir. Haftalık tutulan günlükler ve gözlem formlarından elde edilen bulgular öğrencilerin eğitsel oyun uygulamasından memnun olduklarını, eğitsel oyunlarla yapılan dersleri eğlenceli buldukları, derse olan ilginin ve kalıcılığın arttığını göstermiştir. Ayrıca, deney grubu öğrencilerinin dayanışma, sorumluluk, saygı, kültürel mirasa duyarlılık ve doğal çevreye duyarlılık değerlerini edinme düzeylerinde artış gözlenmiştir. Sonuçlar: Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde eğitsel oyun etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin akademik başarıları ve derse karşı tutumlarını artırdığı tespit edilmiştir. Eğitsel oyunlarla desteklenen öğretimin, öğrenme sürecine ve değerlerin (dayanışma, kültürel mirasa duyarlılık, doğal çevreye duyarlılık, saygı, sorumluluk) gelişimine katkı sağladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effects of educational games on students' academic achievement, attitudes towards the course, and value acquisition in the 6th-grade Social Studies class. Method: This study, designed according to the embedded mixed methods approach, employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design for its quantitative component. The study group consisted of 60 sixth-grade students from a middle school in Şebinkarahisar, Giresun, during the 2023–2024 academic year. For the experimental design, one class was randomly assigned as the experimental group (n=30), while the other was designated as the control group (n=30). The units“Journey Through History”and“Life on Earth”were taught using educational game activities in the experimental group (DG) and through the existing curriculum activities in the control group (KG). Quantitative data were collected using the Academic Achievement Test (ABT) and the Social Studies Attitude Scale (SBDTÖ). The qualitative dimension of the study involved evaluating the implementation process based on student reflections, utilizing reflective journals and value observation forms. Findings: A statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group was observed between the academic achievement test scores of the control group, which followed the existing curriculum activities, and the experimental group, which participated in educational game activities. Additionally, while no significant change was observed in the attitude scores of the control group students toward the course, a significant increase was noted in the experimental group. Findings from the weekly journals and observation forms indicated that students were satisfied with the educational game implementation, found the lessons engaging, and experienced increased interest and retention in the subject. Moreover, an improvement was observed in the experimental group students' acquisition of values such as cooperation, responsibility, respect, sensitivity to cultural heritage, and environmental awareness. Conclusions: It has been determined that educational game activities in Social Studies lessons enhance students' academic achievement and attitudes toward the course. It was concluded that teaching supported by educational games contributes to the learning process and the development of values such as solidarity, sensitivity to cultural heritage, environmental awareness, respect, and responsibility.
