Özet
This study was conducted to determine the possible stressors (stress) and psychosocial effects experienced by families of children with Cerebral Palsy, that is, children with brain damage occurring during the early fetal period. Indeed, from a general perspective, illness is a complex experience that involves not only the patient but also their relatives, and it is considered that this situation is even more challenging in the case of disability. In the study, a qualitative method including the semi-structured interview technique was used, and interview was employed as the technique. The universe of the research consists of parents who have children with Cerebral Palsy living in Antalya province; the sample of the research consists of 10 parents selected from this universe. In order to reach the sample group, an interview form was created by the researcher. The form consists of 7 demographic, 17 open-ended, and many open-ended questions. In the evaluation of the findings, content analysis and thematic coding method were used. The statements mentioned under each theme were briefly interpreted and a frequency extraction process was carried out. As a result, this study underlines the experiences encountered by parents of children with special needs. Moreover, by emphasizing their perspectives on causality, treatment, emotional reactions, support systems, daily life, and personal well-being, the experience of raising a child with special needs was approached with empathy. With this aim, it is intended to increase the support policies and social awareness by enabling healthcare professionals, policymakers, and society in general to understand what these parents go through.
