The Balkan Wars, which took place in the last period of the Ottoman Empire caused serious fractures in the political and social structure as well as military defeats. In this process the battles that took place in and around Chataldja, which was the last line of defense for the defense of the capital Istanbul and had strategic importance, were directly related to the survival of the state and played a decisive role in the course of the war. On the other hand the Battles of Chataldja have been dealt with in a limited way in the existing historiography. In this context the main purpose of this study is to examine how the Ottoman press covered the Battles of Chataldja and how the news about the course of the war was reflected to the public. The Battles of Chataldja are also very important in terms of showing the military power and defense capability of the Ottoman Empire in its last periods. Shortly after the declaration of the war the Bulgarian army, crossed the Ottoman borders and launched an attack, followed by the victories in Kırkkilise and then Pinarhisar Battles in a short time and reached the front of Chataldja. Defeated and forced to retreat in disarray to the Chataldja line, the Ottoman troops formed a last line of battle and defense here to stop the enemy and prevent them from entering the capital Istanbul. After having defended this line for about six months, the Ottoman Army launched an advanced operation on July 12 1913 which resulted in Eastern Thrace coming back under Turkish sovereignty. In this study, the leading newspapers of the period, especially Tanin, İkdam, Sabah, Tasvir-i Efkâr and Alemdar will be analyzed and how the news and official statements about the Battles of Chataldja were reflected in the Ottoman press will be discussed. In addition, telegrams and letters of local and foreign war correspondents covered by the newspapers in question with the news of the Ottoman and Bulgarian news agencies will also be examined and these news will be supported by memoirs, research-studies and graduate theses.
