Urban spaces where everyday life unfolds generate new meanings through the relationships formed in the space, the users who inhabit them, and the communities that emerge around these users. This study proposes to research the everyday practices and networks of relationships established in spaces that either exist within a community or become“urban spaces”precisely because of their presence. The spaces examined within the study are particularly those closely tied to their neighbourhoods—interacting with, even producing or multiplying local communities. The research aims to reveal the meaning of these spaces through subjective experiences and to situate them within their contextual dynamics. The study reads these spaces, which contain publicity that the user will feel the absence of and that some experience as an extension of their home, through the lens of the neighbourhood context. The selected case studies include commercial venues such as cafés, restaurants, and shops and community-oriented examples such as neighbourhood houses, solidarity hubs, and volunteer homes, where forms of collectivity take spatial shape within the neighbourhood. The research seeks to find the counterparts of urban activist practices, which are usually examined in terms of their existence in the public sphere, in subjective experiences and third spaces. To articulate this discussion, the thesis introduces two concepts to describe different forms of activism: (1) Communities, individuals who identify themselves as activists, and the groups, initiatives, and spaces formed by these subjects are referred to as“defined activism”in this thesis. (2) Situations where the seeds of activism are found within the layered relationships of the city's everyday life are claimed to exist, and these invisible relationships are defined by the concept of“implicit activism”. These definitions do not aim to classify activist practices; however, the concept of implicit activism seeks to broaden the definition of activism and include minor forms. To conduct this inquiry,“place-records”were produced for 12 selected places (S. Cafe, Tatavla Solidarity Market, S. Market, Mona, Boom Cafe Associatif, Au Daringmen, Zonneklopper, Kadın Kadına Mülteci Mutfağı, Komşu Kafe, Geççi, Osmanağa Neighborhood Mukhtar's Office Headman, Eksi Bir) as part of an inventory. The aim was to evaluate the locations in the inventory within the same framework using a set of characteristics (location, identity, community, actor, practice, meaning) found in the location records, thereby systematically revealing the social components that constitute the location. The inventory includes places born from communities that embrace an activist identity, and spaces that generate meaning through urban everyday life without assuming any identity or discourse. An“atlas”was created by interpreting the questions in the place-records. This systematic approach allowed for studying different spaces with diverse positions, qualities, or dynamics on a shared plane, enabling cross-readings. This atlas articulated the position of each space along the spectrum of implicit and explicit activism and mapped the meanings they generate within that framework. It represents one experimental model among many possible mappings that could be constructed with alternative concepts and approaches. The thesis does not aim to include a comprehensive or definitive list of all spatial instances of activism. Instead, the study is nourished by the author's observations of everyday situations and practices encountered at different times and contexts. In this sense, the atlas takes on an autoethnographic character, has the potential for expansion, and does not claim to produce finite knowledge. Field notes were produced while examining the everyday life of a space (S. Kafe) included in the inventory, can be seen at the 4th chapter. These notes reveal the city, space, actors, community, and neighbourhood relationships. These observations traced the spatial transitions and scale shifts of everyday life. The study examined urban space's social dynamics, power relations, and everyday implications through multi-layered investigations. An ethnographic research framework was established to conduct a field study and produce a work at the intersection of architecture and anthropology. In conclusion, this study investigated the hypothesis that the everyday urban life practices and relationships occurring within third spaces may contribute to strengthening social and spatial resilience. When engaged with their neighborhood and residents, these third spaces contribute to urban practices of solidarity by fostering a sense of belonging and spatial memory, helping build relational networks, and ultimately contributing to the formation of communities. In this context, such practices are implicit activist practices about urban commons. The thesis offers a reading highlighting hope for the future of communities and cities, grounded in everyday life's modest yet resilient fabric.
