Focusing on the National Struggle Period in Turkish theater, this study aims to examine how the perception of homeland is constructed and how it is represented by different social segments in the theater works written between 1919-2020. This historical process, in which the Turkish nation struggled for existence and non-existence, has been treated as a political and military resistance as well as a cultural transformation intertwined with social consciousness, collective memory and nation-building process. In this context, the reflections of the theme of homeland on different social groups in theater works were analyzed on the axis of eight themes: Proponents and opponents of the Kuvayımilliye, women, children and youth, parents, teachers, religious officials and enemy atrocities. The evaluations made through these themes show that the concept of homeland is interpreted in multi-layered and dynamic ways at the individual and social levels. In this study, screenplay texts were excluded, focusing solely on the theatre genre, and the national perceptions of the characters represented in the works were evaluated using text analysis methods. The perspective of the people living within the Misakımillî borders during the National Struggle period on the National Struggle, their levels of patriotism, the intellectual sources they drew upon, and the processes of transition from individual consciousness to social consciousness were examined; how all these elements contributed to the formation of the concept of homeland was analysed. The findings reveal that the concept of homeland is treated as a set of historical, moral and cultural values as well as a geographical belonging. The study concludes that theater is not only a means of artistic expression, but also a tool that nurtures and disseminates national consciousness. The multi-layered perception of the homeland regarding the National Struggle not only reflected the spirit of the period, but also turned into a memory passed down from generation to generation through theater.
