This thesis aims to analyze from philosophical, scientific and historical perspectives the transition from the Aristotelian conception of the organic universe to the mechanistic conception of the universe of the early modern period, one of the most radical changes in humanity's attempt to understand the universe. While the organic conception of the cosmos shaped in ancient Greek, Hellenistic, medieval Christian and Islamic traditions envisioned the universe as a living, purposeful and hierarchical whole, the scientific revolution, which gained momentum with the Renaissance, redefined the universe as a machine functioning according to mathematical laws. The thesis discusses the concepts of continuity (order, cosmic harmony, teleological interpretations) and radical ruptures (the loss of the Earth's centrality, the shift from qualitative causality to quantitative cause-effect relations, the narrowing of the distinction between metaphysics and physics) in this transformation in an analytical framework. The study combines the historical-comparative method with the reading of philosophical texts, focusing on four phases: (1) Aristotle's doctrine of the organic universe and the distinction between the sublunar and supramundane; (2) Hellenistic and medieval syntheses; (3) the geometric-mathematical paradigm shift that began with the astronomical innovations of Copernicus, Tycho Brahe and Kepler; (4) the deterministic picture of the world, culminating in the universal mechanical laws of Descartes and Newton. Primary source readings and modern secondary literature were evaluated together, and conceptual continuities were revealed through qualitative analysis. The research shows that the“cosmos-ethical”link and the macrocosmos-microcosmos analogy of the organic imagination did not disappear completely despite the mechanical model: Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo retained the idea of cosmic harmony and divine design even as they mathematically reorganized the universe. On the other hand, Tycho Brahe's high-precision observations, Kepler's laws of ellipses, and Newton's postulate of universal gravitation greatly eroded the conceptual foundations of organic structure by focusing on quantities rather than qualities. The Newtonian concept of the world machine conceptualized the universe as a self-operating system with immanent laws, reducing God's role to that of a clockmaker who winds the clock and retreats. The conclusion emphasizes how the mechanistic conception has redefined the relationship between the universe-knowledge-ethics from the 18th century to the present, but how new questions emerging in contemporary cosmology partially question determinism. The thesis thus demonstrates that understanding the universe within the tense continuum of organic and mechanistic models provides a dynamic framework for both scientific progress and philosophical reflection.
