The primary objective of this study is to examine the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on independent auditing processes within the rapidly digitalizing economic ecosystem and to empirically analyze the perceptions, attitudes, and expectations of active field auditors toward these innovative systems. The research sample consists of 51 professional auditors actively working in independent audit firms operating in the province of Istanbul. In the study, which adopted the survey model as a quantitative research method, data were collected via a structured online questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS software. The construct validity of the scale was tested through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), confirming a reliable four-dimensional structure (Ethics, Efficiency, Knowledge, Fraud Detection) that explains 76.20% of the total variance. Statistical findings prove that auditors position artificial intelligence not as an occupational substitution threat, but rather as a complementary tool that accelerates operational workflows. The dimension with the highest level of agreement among the auditors was“AI Process and Efficiency”(Mean=4.04). Furthermore, the applied Multiple Linear Regression analysis revealed that auditors' ethical awareness, professional knowledge levels, and fraud detection expectations directly explain 71.4% of the variance in the perception of AI operational efficiency. As a result of the difference analyses (t-Test and ANOVA) applied to demographic variables, the most striking finding of the study was identified at the education level. The questioning approaches of auditors with postgraduate education toward the“Ethics and Transparency”dimension are statistically significantly higher compared to those with undergraduate degrees (p=0.047). Other variables such as gender, age, professional title, and years of experience were found not to create a significant divergence in perception (p>0.05). These results demonstrate that the use of artificial intelligence in the auditing sector has transformed into an institutional and universal standard; however, academic education plays a critical role in managing the moral risks that algorithmic systems might pose.
