Ill MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL NEUTRON AND RESONANCE INTEGRAL CROSS SECTIONS OF (n,y) REACTIONS FOR 71Ga, 74As, 133Cs, 139La, 148Nd, 164Dy, 16SHo AND 186W ISOTOPES USING SINGLE MONITOR 55Mn (PhD. Thesis) Mustafa KARADA? GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY October 2003 ABSTRACT Thermal neutron cross sections and resonance integral cross sections for the 71Ga(n,y)72Ga, 75As(n,y)76As, 133Cs(n,y)134raCs, 139La(n,y)140La, 148Nd(n,y)149Nd, 164Dy(n,y)165Dy, I65Ho(n,y)166Ho and 186W(n,y)187W reactions were measured by the activation method using measured Cd-ratios. The experimental samples with and without a cylindrical Cd shield case having of 1 mm wall thickness were irradiated in an isotropic neutron field of the 241Am-Be neutron source. The induced activities in the samples were measured by a y-ray spectrometry with a calibrated HpGe detector. Thermal neutron cross sections for 2200 m/s neutrons and resonance integrals for the reactions have been obtained relative to the reference values, a0=13,3±0,l b and I0=14,0±0,3 b for the S5Mn(n,y)56Mn reaction as a single comparator in this study. The necessary correction factors for gamma attenuation, thermal neutron and resonance neutron self-shielding effects were taken into account in the determinations. By defining Cd cut-off energy 0,55 eV for a Cd box (H/D=2), the results obtained were: a0=4,41±0,18 b, Io=323±2^ b for 71Ga(n,y)72Ga; ct0=4,15±0,24 b, I0=63,5±3,8 b for 75As(n,y)76As; a
