Özet

SUMMARY Evaluation of Health Related Quality of Life of Over 40 Year Old People in Park Health Center Region and Its Relation with Hypertension Health related quality of life is defined as the perception of persons related to one's position in life in terms of objectives, expectations, standards and anxieties in the conjecture of the culture and values system. The domain of chronic diseases is the first of domains in which the concept of quality of life is used in health services. Hypertension has especially a significant place among all the chronic diseases due to its higher prevalence and high morbidity and mortality particularly in the elderly. This study has been planned to determine quality of life of people at 40 years of age and older and the effect of hypertension on areas of quality of life. And the survey presented is a cross-sectional study which is conducted among residents of age 40 and over, living at the Park Health Center Area during the period of August and September 2004. Three hundred participants from the eligible population (n=5962) were chosen by simple random sampling of these two hundred sixty (86.6 %) were reached. A questionnaire including 24 questions and the eight scales which together the SF-36 Health Survey has been administered to each participant through an interview. Additionaly, all participitants blood pressure was measured. Data entry and statistical analysis were performed by using SPSS 10.0 programme. Statistical analysis, we used Mann- Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and multiple linear regression tests. 96In the study group, the hypertension frequency was found as 48.8 %. The SF-36 general mean score of the study group was 61.8 ± 21.9 (%95 CI: 59.1- 64.5). Significant differences were determined in all scales of the SF-36 as for sex, educational status and job status. In factors other than these, significant differences were found in physical functioning and mental health scores for age, physical functioning score for marital status, general health score for type of house resided, general health and vitality scores for per capita annual income. The hypertensive group in the study has lower scores in all scales compared to non-hypertensives; the physical functioning, physical role, bodily pain, vitality, emotional role scores are also significantly lower as statistically. In multiple linear regression analysis; hypertension was found to have an effect on physical functioning, vitality and emotional role scales. Additionally age, sex, education, type of house resided annual income, per capita and the existence of chronic disease other than hypertension are the other factors having significant effect on various scales of the SF- 36. In conclusion, the SF-36 scores of the study population which is over 40 years living in the survey area were found to be low. It was determined that hypertension in addition to other factors such as age, sex, education, and chronic diseases have a negative effect on quality of life and consequently there has been a proposal based on the need for developing multidisciplinary approaches to life areas affected by hypertension and for efforts promoting quality of life.
