Özet

-76 SUMMARY The Comparison of The Academic Achievement of School Sport Participant and Non-participant Students Grade 6-8. This study aims at comparing the academic achievement (end of year grade and OKS test results) of participant and non-participant students in school sports grades 6 to 8. The study also revealed gender differences affecting results. The population of the study consisted of 767 6-8 graders. Of these, 383 students were participants in school sports, 384 were non-participants. The information about participants of the study and academic performance were gathered through interviews with physical educators and the data bank of the schools. For the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, T-Test, and Chi-Square tests have been applied. As a result, whereas there was a positive outcome on the part of the students who participated in school sports with respect to their grades, there was no significant difference with respect to the OKS test result. When participants and non-participants of school sports were analyzed taking gender into consideration, it can be said that female participants in school sports showed a higher success rate in school grades and OKS test results than non-participant females. However, there was no significant result among males who participated in school sports and who were non-participants.
