The aim of the study was to devise guide materials related to ?Solution Chemistry?topic in Grade 9 existing in ?Dense Phases of Matter? unit in Secondary Science Curriculumand to seek how they affect students? achievement. The guide materials intending to achieveconceptual change are based on four-step constructivist teaching strategy and incorporate inmaterials associated with worksheet, conceptual change text and analogy. The sample underinvestigation comprises of 44 grade 9 students who were drawn from different two classes atthe same school (22 for each). To collect data, concept achievement test, student?s self-assessment form, observation and clinical interviews were employed. The conceptachievement test was administered to the sample one month before the intervention as a pre-test, and re-administered immediately after intervention as a post-test and used as a delayedtest 10 weeks after the intervention. Moreover, clinical interviews were conducted with 6students who were selected based on their conceptual change degree as average (S6 and S9),under average (S8 and S25) and above average (S16 and S42). One-way ANOVA results notonly show a significant statistical difference among tests used in the current study (P<0.05),but also multiple comparison results show a similar significant difference in favor of post-testand delayed test. This indicates that the tasks and guide materials carried here are effective inchanging students? alternative conceptions and afford students to store their conceptions ofsolution chemistry in their long-term memory. Another outstanding conclusion is the fact thatthe tasks and guide materials involved in the current study lead to emerge various alternativeconceptions in some cases. The study was implemented by taking into account the idea thatusage of various types of tasks such as analogy, conceptual change text and worksheetenhances effectiveness of each other and entails disadvantages of one other. To support thisidea, further comparative studies in different subjects should be undertaken in depth.
