THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL PRESS IN THE OF LOCAL PUBLIC OPINIONFORMATION - A STUDY ON TRABZON-2QXU%(.ø52ö/8ABSTRACTThe local public opinion constitutes one of the components of the national and theinternational public opinion, in the range and and characteristics of a particularregionality and a corresponding particular demography, namely the locals. In this localcontext, the local mass media and in particular the local newspapers play a veryimportant role in the local public opinion formation process. They have the function andthe mission to evaluate and cover the local features of problems and developments; ofthe social, political, economical and cultural life in their activity area where the localpublic opinion has his life and interaction sphere.The whole notion and the functions of the local newspapers as a communicationmedia at the local level, requires it to fulfill it?s journalistic duties according to this locallife sphere. As a result, the role of local newspapers in the local public opinion formingprocess has been studied on the case of Trabzon.
