Uygulanan her egzersiz protokolü öncesinde izokinetik denge sistemikullanılarak çift ayak dinamik denge ölçümü yapıldı ve ardından bisiklet ergometresiile 5 dakika ısınma yaptırıldı.
Introduction: Although it is generally believed that stretching exercises improvesporting performance, it has been argued lately that different stretching exerciseprotocols before the sporting activity may have different effects on performance. Ourknowledge on the effects of stretching exercises on dynamic balance, one of themost important determinants of sporting performance, is rather limited.Research Objective: The main objective of this research is to identify andpresent the acute effects of static and dynamic stretching exercises and the role ofgender on dynamic balance. Moreover, the research aims to compare the dynamicbalance performance levels of men and women and the relationship between keyphysical properties and dynamic balance performance.Research Methods: 73 recreational sport persons with similar characteristicsfrom three sporting branches volunteered to take part in this research. Afterdismissing six persons from the exercise for various reasons, the study included atotal of 67 persons; 33 males with average age of 20.5 ± 2.3 years and body massindex of 23 ± 3 kg/m² and 34 females with average age of 21.4 ± 3 years and bodymass index (BMI) of 22.7 ± 3 kg/m². First of all the medical histories detailing sportingactivity levels of all the subjects were established and the physical examinations werecompleted. The subjects were then randomly selected to determine the sequence ofperformance of three different exercise protocols including the warm up, staticstretching and dynamic stretching exercises. The subjects were given resting periodsof 48 - 72 hours between each exercise protocol. Before each exercise protocol thedouble foot dynamic balance were measured based on the isokinetic balance systemand subjects were later asked to warm up for 5 minutes using the bicycle ergometer.Stretching exercises were applied on the four different bilateral lower extremitymuscle groups. The subjects were made to rest for one minute after the application ofeach protocol and dynamic balance measurements were taken again. The timeperiod between the two dynamic balance measurements, including the warm upperiod, lasted a total of 16 minutes and 45 seconds.Statistical Method: Statistical results were analysed using the SPSS program(version 15.0). Descriptive statistics, including the means and standard deviations areprovided for the numerical data. Normality tests were performed. All the data did notconform to the normality requirements and consequently non-parametric tests wereused to analyse the data. Statistical significance was reported at the level of p<0.05.Results: The research showed that all three of the warm up, static stretchingand dynamic stretching protocols positively affect dynamic balance performance(p<0.01), that gender does not cause a significant difference (p>0.05) and that thethree exercise protocols do not have a significantly different effect (p>0.05).The research showed that, evaluating the three pre-exercise dynamic balancemeasurements taken with 48 - 72 hours gaps, the dynamic balance scoressignificantly improved (p<0.01).Although the dynamic balance performance of women were found to besignificantly better than men (p<0.01), the dynamic balance performance of the twogenders were not found to be significantly different after adjusting for the heightdifferences between men and women subjects (p>0.05).While there was not a significant relationship between dynamic balance scoreand age for the whole sample (p>0.05), there was a positive correlation between thedynamic balance scores and weight (p<0.01, r=0.782), height (p<0.01, r=0.541) andBMI (p<0.01, r=0.645) for men and just weight (p<0.01, r=0.519) for women. Conclusion: In contrast to the main hypothesis of the research that in the acutephase dynamic stretching exercises affect dynamic balance performance morepositively than static stretching exercises, it was found for both men and womensubjects that both the types of stretching exercises positively affect dynamic balanceperformance and that neither is significantly superior to the other in the effect ondynamic balance performance.Due to the fact that this research is the first ever study to investigate the acuteeffect of dynamic stretching exercises on the dynamic balance performance and therole of gender plays on the effect of stretching exercises on the balance performance, there may be need for further and more extensive research on the issue.
