Özet
Osmanlı dünyasında toplumsal yaşam alışkanlıklarının ve bununla birlikte özel alan ve mekanların önemli değişimler geçirdiği gerilimli bir dönem olan 18. yüzyılda İstanbul'un özel mekanlarını diğer bir deyişle konutlarını doğrudan belgeleme olanağı olmadığından, sözü edilen bu alandaki gelişmeleri anlamak için dönemin Osmanlı belgelerine dayanmak gerekmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasında da, 18. yüzyıl İstanbul'unda kent yapısına, konuta, barınma kültürü ve yaşam koşullarına dair bir panorama çizmek amaçlanırken, Ahkâm defterlerinin 1742?1764 yılları arasındaki istibdal hükümlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Konu bağlamında hükümlerden derlenen bilgilerle, İstanbul kentine ve konutlarına ilişkin kantitatif analizlerin yapılması ve buradan elde edilecek istatistiki verilerle konunun değerlendirilmesi ve irdelenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu belgelerden elde edilebilecek veriler ve bunlarla değerlendirilen ana başlıklar aşağıdaki gibidir:?İstanbul'da yaşayan farklı kentli gruplar ve bunların kent içi dağılımları.?Konutların arsa ve binalarının zemin alanı büyüklükleri (yüzölçümleri) ve kat sayıları ve kent yoğunluğu?Konut ve arsa kıymetleri, kira gelirleri ve buradan elde edilen istatistiki verilerle kentteki barınma koşulları.?Sokak ve konut ilişkileri, kamusal-özel mekan kademelenmeleri.?Kentteki barınma standartları, mekan bileşenleri ve bunların düzeni, konutlardaki konfor koşullarının farklılıkları (oda sayısı, hijyen koşulları, su sağlama olanakları, mutfak, tuvalet gibi bazı bileşenlerin varlığı ve hangi katta yer aldığı vs.)

18th century is an age of the change and transformation of domestic practices and also private spaces for Ottoman society, especially in Istanbul. However, for this period, domestic architecture in Istanbul can not be represented with existing buildings because of the very limited quantity of examples. Thus, to make a reliable documentary analysis of domestic culture and architecture and living conditions in the 18th century is nearly impossible. For these reasons, it is necessary that scholarly studies concerning this issue base on Ottoman documents of this period. In this dissertation, it is aimed to draw a panorama regarding the city structure, domestic culture and living conditions in the Istanbul at that century. And in the direction of this aim, it is benefitted from the registers about the case of ?istibdal? among the Ahkam registers of Istanbul between 1742?1764. The ?istibdal? registers containing rich material in this context, the data used for quantitative analysis and statistical inference with regard to houses and the city is as follows:?Different groups of city dwellers in Istanbul and their distribution in the city?Building land dimensions and number of floors of the houses and residential density in the city?Building and land prices, rental values of the houses.?Relations between the public spaces (street) and private spaces (houses)?Housing standards in Istanbul and arrangements of the spaces and the comfort requirements of the houses (the number of rooms, hygene requirements, water-supply conditons, locations of the spaces like the kitchen and the toilets etc.)
