SUMMARY India is at the South part of Asia and streches over 3200 kilometres from North to the south. The climate varies greatly over this large area. Indian people calls India as“Bharata Varsha”. India had a highly developed urban civilization at the time when the Aryans came from the North about 2000 B.C. This civilization existed in the Indus Valley with its centre at Mohenjo-daro and Harappa in sind (now Pakistan) The Mohenjo-daro, Harappa and Cankudaro were not near to each other but they show many similarities. These cities of Indus Valley had a perfect planning intelligence. Aryans gave to India Vedic religion and literature in India's remote forest hermitages. The Aryan mystics and thinkers produced sublime poetry and philosophy. After the collapse of Indus Valley's cities, many new cities and villages were imerged. In fact, oldest Indus cities had a very developed history and art. One of these important cities is Pataliputra which was the capital city of Maurya Empire. This city was wonderfully planned. Fatehpür STkfi“Victory City”which was established by Akber shah in the nort of Âgra, became one of the distinguished cities of India in that time. And this city was the paradise of mosques and palaces. Moreover, Delhi is one of the oldest and historical cities of India. It became the capital city of many stranger Empire through the history. Furthermore Bombay is the main center of Indian mercantalism. 142Cities which were the subjects of three important Indian epics, Mahâbhârata, Râmâyana and Harivamşa took very important place in Indian history and literature Mathüra and Hastinapura cities became famous in the epics of“Mahâbhârata”and“Harivamşa”Indraprastha was came accross in the famous epic“Mahâbhârata”. Ayodhyâ, now its called as Qudh, is the place where the epic of Râmâyana was emerged. And at first the name of Ayodhyâ has come in Râmâyana. And a detail disctibtion is these about Ayodhyâ. And its also known as one of the sacred city of India. Ujjain that the capital city of west India, is also accepted as one of the seventh sacred city. In Indian cities it's possible to find many interesting things about art and culture, because each city has wonderful mosques, magnificient temples and monasteries. 143
