Özet
Bu çalışma, Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi İngiliz Dili Edebiyatı Bölümü dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin eğitimleri boyunca aldıkları çeviri derslerinin akademik çalışmalarını olası etkilerini ve bu öğrencilerin söz konusu çeviri derslerine karşı tutumlarını ortaya koymayı hedeflemektedir. Araştırma, Bülent Ecevit Ünversitesi İngiliz Dili Edebiyatı öğrencilerine bu çeviri dersleriyle sağlayabileceği dil bilinci, okuma beceri, kelime edinimi, yazma becerileri, kültür bilinci, bilişsel beceriler, metin bilgisi gibi çeviri yetisini oluşturan öğeler üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Çalışma boyunca öne sürülen hipotez Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi İngiliz Dili Edebiyatı Bölümü verilen çeviri derslerinin sözü edilen öğrencilere Türkçe ve İngilizce arasındaki dilsel farklılıklar üzerinde bilinç oluşturma , temel dil becerilerini geliştirme, Türk ve İngiiliz kültürleri arasındaki farklılıklar konusunda bilgi edinme, dil kullanımında bilişsel beceriler edinme, farklı metin ve edebi türlerin içerdiği dil zenginliğiyle ilgili farkındalık kazanmak gibi konularda yardımcı olabileceğidir. Çalışmada bu tezi desteklemek üzere nicel bir araştırma yürütülmüştür. Veriler cevapları“tamamen katılıyorum”ve“tamamen katılmıyorum”arasında beş değişken ve 25 maddeden oluşan Likert tutum ölçeği içeren bir anket kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Bu anketle İngiliz Dili Edebiyatı üçüncü sınıfı öğrencileriyle 2016-2017 akademik yılının bahar döneminde bir pilot çalışma yapılmış, anketin gerçeklik ve yeterliliği Cronbach Alfa Katsayı Testi ile kontrol edilmiştir. Nihai anket uygulaması pilot çalışmasından üç hafta sonra gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin anket sorularına verdiği cevaplar, Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi İngiliz Dili Edebiyatı dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin eğitimleri boyunca aldıkları çeviri dersine karşı tutumlarının olumlu olduğu ve bu derslerin akademik çalışma ve başarılarına katkıda bulunduğunu ortaya koymuştur.

This study attempts to find out the contribution of the translation courses the students of fourth grade English Literature Department at Bülent Ecevit University took during their education on their academic studies and their attitudes towards these translation courses. The research especially focuses on Language Awareness, Reading Skills, Writing Skills, Vocabulary Acquisition, Cognitive Skills, Cultural Awareness and Text Knowledge by giving samples of related studies as these aspects make up the components of translation competence which the students of fourth grade English Literature Department at Bülent Ecevit University may acquire via the translation courses they were offered through their education. Throughout the study it is hypothesized that the translation courses offered at the English Language and Literature Department may help students acquire language awareness on the differences between Turkish and English, enhance their basic language skills, provide students with useful insights on the differences between cultures, and gain cognitive competence on the use of language, and become aware of language variety of various genres and text types. A quantitative research was carried out to confirm this hypothesis. A student perception questionnaire consisting 25 items with five point Likert scale answers varying from“completely agree”to“completely disagree”was used to gather the necessary data. Moreover, the questionnaire was piloted with third year English Language and Literature students in the Spring term of 2016-2017 academic year and its validity and reliability was checked with Cronbach Alpha Coefficient Test. The final questionnaire was performed with the fourth grade students three weeks after the piloting. The results were obtained by using SPSS which indicated that the fourth grade literature students' at Bülent Ecevit University have a positive attitude towards the translation courses offered in their university and that they believe these courses contribute to their academic studies and success.
