Comparative corporate governance research has been done throughout the decades. Yet very few research has focused on how corporate governance affected by a respective state's culture, religion, values. They have been mainly focused on regulations and codifying efforts to regulate corporate governance. This study aims to explain the culture's impact on corporate governance by comparing corporate governance practices in Turkey and United Kingdom. While analysing the culture of these countries, Geert Hofstede's cultural values and other research inspired by Geert Hofstede's values have been used. Corporate Governance Code's of both Turkey and UK have many similar provisions as mentioned however; the practices and current state of corporate governance in both countries vary greatly. As evidenced by this research, the most influential cultural dimension of Hofstede is uncertainty avoidance, evidenced from the researches conducted by using Hofstede's values. It affects the quality and transparency of financial disclosure of the firms as well ownership types and the size of the stock market. Culture as proven affects corporate governance practices. However, It is not the sole reason why corporate governance differs from country to country. There are more other things that affect corporate governance such as political environment and government agendas. This study also takes globalisation of corporate governance into consideration as well. Nevertheless, with different ownership structures, economic backgrounds, economics goal, It seems impossible to have a single, one size fits all corporate governance system.
