Özet
Bu çalışmada incelenecek olan eser, İngiliz besteci ve piyanist Edmund Rubbra'nın 1955 yılında yazmış olduğu, Op. 75 eser sayılı Viyola Konçertosu'dur. Rubbra'nın eserleri arasında önemli bir yere sahip olan bu eser, yazıldığı dönemdeki olağanüstü solistlerin varlığı sayesinde hayat bulmuştur. Edmund Rubbra Viyola Konçertosu ile aynı dönemde bestelenmiş olan Walton ve Bartok Viyola Konçertoları da bu bakımdan bir tesadüf olmadığı gibi önerilen tezi destekler niteliktedir Bu çalışmada, yazıldığı dönemde birçok kere seslendirilen bu değerli eser, bestecisinin hayatı, yazıldığı dönem ve viyola repertuvarındaki yeriyle ilgili tarihsel süreçler de değerlendirilerek tüm yönleriyle ele alınacaktır. Bu bilgilerin ışığı altında, eserin müzikal yapısıyla ilgili kullanılan yöntem ve malzemeler araştırılarak, çalışma içerisinde örneklerle desteklenerek sunulacaktır. Yapılacak yapısal inceleme sonucunda elde edilen müzikal verilerin, çalıcıya, eserdeki müzikal anlatının temel yapı taşları hakkında yoruma dayalı kapsamlı fikirler vereceği öngörülmüştür. Yapısal inceleme sonucunda ortaya çıkan bilgiler, eserin teknik zorluklarına da işaret ettiği gibi müzikal anlamda bütünleyicidir. Konçertolar, yazılmış oldukları çalgılar için, içerisinde teknik olarak çeşitli zorluklar barındıran eserlerdir. Bu nedenle, seslendirilecek olan konçertonun içerdiği teknik zorluklar, eserin müzikal yapısı içerisinde harmanlanarak çalıcı tarafından eserin yoruma hazırlanabilmesi için gereken çeşitli yöntem ve çalışmalara ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Edmund Rubbra Viyola Konçertosu'nun içerdiği teknik zorluklar sınıflandırılarak, her bir zorluk için çalışma yöntemleri önerilerek örneklendirilecektir. Edmund Rubbra Viyola Konçertosu özelinde, bir eseri hazırlarken yapılması önerilen tüm bu çalışmalar, üstün bir yorum sağlayabileceği gibi, çalıcının, çalgı çalma tekniğine dayalı sanatsal bilgi ve birikimlerini değerlendirerek akademik alanda katkı sağlayabilmesini amaçlar.

The piece that is going to be studied in this thesis is the Op. 75 Viola Concerto written by English composer and pianist Edmund Rubbra in 1955. This piece came to known because of the extraordinary performers at the time and it is one of the important pieces crafted by the composer. Other concertos, like Walto and Bartok that were composed in the same time period, are not mere coincidences in the way they support the argument of the work. This thesis will investigate this important piece that was performed frequently at the time in terms of the life of the composer, time period it was written and its place in the viola repertoire from a history perspective. In the light of this information, methods and instruments related to the musical structure of the piece will be researched and presented supported by the examples that will be given in the study. It is foreseen that the musical data gained through the structural analysis will provide the performer with a comprehensive insight on the building stones of the musical expression of the piece. Information revealed due to the structural review will point at the technical difficulties of the piece while also beign complementary to it in a musical sense. Concertos are pieces that houses challenges for the instruments they are composed for. This is why a series of methods and work is required by the performer to prepare the piece for a rendition. To this end performer should incorporate technical difficulties into the musical structure of the piece. In this thesis the technical difficulties of the Edmund Rubbra's Viola Concerto will be classified and for each difficulty the associated working method will be proposed. Suggested methods by this thesis may provide a superior rendition of the Edmund Rubbra's Viola Concerto but they also should able the performers to make a contribution in academic field through their musical technique and knowledge.
