ABSTRACT THE EVALUATION OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH PROBLEMS IN COAL MINING SECTOR Şentürk, Yener M.S., Department of Mining Engineering Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Tevfik Güyagüler September 1996, 78 pages Occupational accidents and diseases create important problems in mines because they cause production loss and create damage to the materials, equipments and injuries to the employees. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate the causes of accidents and make decision for minimization of these accidents. In this thesis, occupational safety and health problems in coal mining industry will be evaluated by using recent years statistical data of Turkish coal mines. Occupational accident and disease, disabilities, working environment hygiene and labor inspection systems in the world are discussed by using some examples as much as possible.
