Özet
In this study, four contemporary texts will be used to explore and illustrate the cultural politics of emotion and social critique in the post-apocalyptic narrative. This will include Cormac McCarthy's 2006 novel The Road and its adapted 2009 film directed by John Hillcoat, the 2008 short story“WALL•E”written by Andrew Stanton the director of its adapted film. In this study, the differences in social critique and emotional attitudes in each of these texts will be explored to bring out the uniqueness of the post-apocalyptic narrative and the discussions of their roles. A major goal in this study is to further the idea that the post-apocalyptic narrative is situated historically. In the past, sociopolitical conditions have done much to constitute the conventions of post-apocalyptic narrative, from the imminent dangers of nuclear weaponry to the potential mutations that could result after the blast. In the present, sociopolitical conditions do similar constitutive work, but it can be less visible. Since the mid-1940s, we have been constantly reminded of our own technological abilities to remove ourselves violently from the face of the Earth. Bu çalışmada, Platonik-Hıristiyan konjonktür uzamında anlaşılması gereken post apokaliptik anlatı -yani narasiyondaki- duygu ve sosyal eleştirinin siyasal kültürünü araştırmak ve tanımlamak için dört çağdaş metin kullanılacaktır. Bu çalışma, Cormac McCarthy tarafından 2006' da yazılan roman The Road (Yol) ve 2009 yılında John Hillcoat tarafından yönetilen romanın uyarlaması olan filmi ve 2008 yılında Andrew Stanton tarafından yazılan kısa öykü“WALL.E”(VOL-İ) ve yönetmenliğini de yine kendisinin yaptığı aynı adlı hikayenin uyarlaması olan filmi kapsayacaktır. Bu çalışmada, post apokaliptik anlatıdaki eşsizliği ve rollerindeki tartışmaların ortaya çıkması için her bir metinde olan sosyal eleştiri ve duygusal tutumlardaki farklılıklar post yapısalcılık üzerinden araştırılacaktır. Bu çalışmanın asıl amacı post apokaliptik anlatının tarihsel bir yerinin bulunduğu fikrini ileriye taşımaktır. Geçmişteki sosyopolitik koşullar, nükleer silahlanmanın mutlak tehlikelerinden başlayarak inflak olarak tercüme edilebilecek bir blast sonucu meydana gelebilecek olası mutasyona kadar birçok post apokaliptik anlatı konusunun oluşmasına yardımcı oldu. Günümüzün sosyopolitik koşulları benzer konuları yaratabilecek olsa da fazla belirgin değildir. 1940'ların ortasından beri insanlara sürekli kendilerini dünyadan şiddetle uzaklaştırmalarına yarayacak becerileri hatırlatılıyor.
