108 ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to investigate to the vocational school graduates whether the donation of additional score in the entrance examination for the higher education affects their preferences of higher education programs on their own fields. After the completion of a detailed literature survey on the subject. Data collection strategies were based on the statistical results of OSYM on the distribution of additional scores. Those students who graduated from the vocational schools in 1992-93 academic year and entered a higher education program in their own field following the 1993 OSYS examination constitutes the major subject of this research. All the necessary data about the additional score distribution of the above mentioned students were obtained. In order to get further information, questionaires were given to the graduates of vocational schools who entered the related programs of Faculties of Education; Technical Education, Wide Spread Vocational Education, of Gazi University after the 1993 OSYS examination. The faculties mentioned were selected as a consequence of the sampling study. The sampling covered 212 students registered at Faculties of Education, Technical Education Wide Spread Vocational Education of Gazi University.109 The scales of determining the fields of high schools which applies a programs towards a profession have been calculated with the aid of the scale developed to calculated the extra score distribution of students. A questionare with a total of 12 questions has been prepared to determine the views related to the effect of the additional score application to high schools teading towards a profession on preferences. In 1993 OSYS, the distribution of additional score according to the types of high schools and the of students' views related to the effect of additional score on preferences have been shown in tabulated form. These tables; were organized, an interpreted; i) according to the high school preferences at 1993 OSYS additional score distribution, ii) according to the high school types at 1993 OSYS additional score distribution on the basis of male students, iii) according to the high school types at 1993 OSYS additional score distribution on the basis of female students, v) according to the knowledge of students on additional score with respect to faculties, vi) according to the views of students on at what stage in their education they gained the knowledge about additional score, vii) according to their views about the expressing the additional score application.110 viii) according to their opinions on determining the effect of additional score on preferences. ix) according to the students' opinions on the necessity of additional score. x) according to the sufficiency of the amount of additional score. When the data obtained at 1993 OSYS was analyzed according to the distribution of additional score, it has been seen that, except for the students of Teacher High Schools, 90% of all the professional High Schools students are concentrated within the additional score. When the data, related to the effect of additional score to professional high schools on students' choices, gathered from the interviews with the students is analyzed, it has been found that; Students have knowledge about additional score and it has been realized those who are from Faculties of Technical Education and, Wide-Spread Vocational Education of Gazi University had this knowledge in high school, where as 30% of those of students who are from Faculties of Education of Gazi University had this knowledge in secondary school. Despite of this and still, it has been determined that half of the students taking part in sampling had the opinion that the advertising of the additional score is insufficient. Apart from this, 92.9% of students think that additional score application has a deterministic role on students' choices and that application is useful. The number of students who think that the additional score is sufficient, when rationed to total, is about 17%. Where as, 45.3% of students think additional score is pentially sufficient and 39.6% of students think that extra score is insufficient.III In the light of the findings, the necessity of guidance while learning the information about extra score, has been proposed. It has also been proposed that the departments which is given additional score should not be limited by OSYM, on the contrary extra score should be applied to all the other departments which are in the same field as the students are trained or educated in high school. lüt!--..
