Harnessing trade for sustainable development is crucial issue for the future of the planet, human being, society and economy. In the light of this fact, as a key component of sustainable development, international trade affects the future of the planet, and it is an engine for sustainable growth. Thus, sustainable innovation in corporations is indispensable part of a sustainable world. On the other hand, many companies believe that sustainable innovation is just an environmental and social issue, and it is related only with corporate social responsibility (CSR). Due to this believe of firms, it has been very difficult to drive them for sustainable innovation. However, this research has shown that sustainable innovation has a performance enhancing effects on Firm's export performance. Thus, sustainable innovation gains a key role for environment, society, economy and more significantly for companies. To explore this staggering argument, this dissertation has focused on to explore the relationship between sustainable innovation and export performance of export companies by taking sample the selected eight firms in Turkey, which have innovation activities for environmental, social (and human) and economic sustainability in their products, processes and services. Also, these firms were selected from various sectors (e.g. health, education and energy) and sustainable innovation aspects (environmental, social and economic). In addition, the dissertation has viewed a broad literature to create a fundamental knowledge for study and build a conceptual framework. Moreover, the research has used qualitative methodological approach to benefit from its explanatory nature. Also, semistructured interviews have been carried out in the collection process of primary data. Furthermore, the collected data has been coded, categorised, analysed and outlined to achieve best results by following grounded theory. The dissertation has outlined that there is a strong correlation between environmental/ social/economic sustainable innovation and export performance of firms. Although the research has been implemented in one country with several sample firms, the results can be generalised with the harmony of existing literature. Thus, researchers, policy makers, firm leaders and international organisations can benefit from this dissertation to be more sustainable and successful.
