Özet (Çeviri)
In the last decades, greenhouse gas emission has increased considerably and this caused the born of most challenging issue for the world: Climate change. It is a global problem which poses a threat for the world with no exception. In order to reduce its impacts, an immediate mitigation plan must be designed and applied by every country. However, it is not an easy transition for developing countries which face with several other problems apart from climate change as in the case of Southern Africa. The region is considered as one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change because of the low adaptive capacity. Since the current system is causing a lot of problems in the social, environmental and economic context, it is an opportunity for the region to promote a green growth. Introducing renewable energy technologies, efficient water and waste management models and sustainable agriculture practices would help the region to move towards sustainable development. However, the adoption of such technologies and services are confronted with several financial, political, technical and social barriers. This study examines these barriers in the context of The Southern African Development Community (SADC) region in order to determine their impacts on the promotion of clean technologies in related sectors and provide solutions to overcome. The most significant point, which the results have shown, is that all the mentioned sectors are in fact intercorrelated. This reality underlines the fact that, identified barriers and the mentioned sectors must be evaluated all together, rather than separately. Additionally, due to specific country conditions, member countries should be evaluated both individually and as a united region. Adequate adoption of such strategies requires high political will to develop national frameworks with stakeholder participation. Good governance should open the way for further development in all areas.
