Özet (Çeviri)

This thesis examines the effects of Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act on loan amounts and delinquency levels of P2P lending platforms and banking sector in the USA by using a comprehensive data collected from Lending Club and several US institutions. I explain the changes in the performances of loans and delinquencies before and after 2011, when CFPB is authorized for implementing and enforcing the consumer protection laws, by distinguishing between some states that are directly affected by these related laws and regulations from the ones which are not. Conducting related regressions firstly on state-level data and including state-level fixed effects, overall loan amounts seem increasing for both two lending alternatives, whereas only delinquency levels of banking sector decrease extremely and significantly for post-period relative to pre-period. Contrary to the analysis on state-level data, the similar analysis adopted on a bigger information set of individual-level data yields highly significant and decreasing results for loan performances and delinquency rates in affected states relative to unaffected ones. Although the Dodd-Frank Act is shown to be highly effective for reducing the failed debt repayment ratios in the US economy and benefiting banking sector the most, reductions in loan amounts and number of loans issued might seem to be a signal for the drawbacks of the strict rules implemented for consumer and lender protections. Additionally, I find strong and significant effects of various demographics and individual-related characteristics on loan amounts and delinquencies.
