The Customs Union (CU) between Turkey and the EU entered into force on 1st January 1996. This study aims to empirically analyze the effects of the CU on Turkey's trade in light of the recent developments in the Gravity model of trade literature. The study did not find a statistically significant impact on total trade between the parties during the examined period. At the country level, Turkey's trade with some countries is estimated to increase, but this positive impact is limited and does not indicate a systematic pattern. At the product level, machine and road vehicle trade between parties increased and it can be interpreted as the development of intra-industry trade in technologically sophisticated products. Besides, when the lagged effect of trade agreements is allowed for, it is estimated that the CU affected positively the trade at the beginning of the agreement but the impact disappeared after a while
