Özet (Çeviri)

This study aimed to examine how irrigation frequencies and the addition of hydrogel to the soil affect the drought response and survival of seedlings of three tree species in a greenhouse experiment and assessed the implications for ecological restoration in both arid and semi-arid regions. In total, 80 Pedunculate Oaks (Quercus robur), 80 Hawthorns (Crataegus monogyna) and 80 Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) seedlings, which are also considered to be a durable species against drought, were used for four different experiments. Additionally, they were bare rooted and without leaves except for Scots Pine, and all experiments were completed between the 22nd of June and the 10th of August and took 50 days based on irrigation frequency and hydrogel used in soil and conducted in the greenhouse 1 in the Memorial Building at Bangor University. Hydrogel known as swollen gel, aqua gel and water gel, is a versatile material that stores water through its granules for the use of less water and reducing drought stress in planting. Used soil in the experiments was brought from the Henfaes Research Centre, which belongs to Bangor University. Hydrogel was added to the plants' cells in the experiment 3 and 4 to a certain extent. In addition, the plants used in this greenhouse study were ordered from Maelor Forest Nurseries Ltd in Wales, UK. The seedlings watered by using different watering regimes in the first 20 days of the study, and then they were subjected to drought stress without being irrigated for another 30 days. Each experiment had 20 Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur), 20 Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) and 20 Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) seedlings. The plants in the experiment 1 and 3 were watered every day in the first 20 days, whereas, the plants used in the experiment 2 and 4 were irrigated 5 times through irrigation time, and the survival rate of these plants was observed over the next 30 days by using the wilting index. Furthermore, in order to track all seedling easier, each plant was given a unique code, which defines watering regimes, experiment number and soil type (with or without hydrogel). The data was analysed by looking at species drought response using a wilting grade, and seedling survival was followed during the study. At the end of all experiments Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) had the highest survival and growth rate together with having the least wilting values in total, and it was followed by Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur) and Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) having the worst development, survival rate and performance in wilting values. Additionally, there were less wilted plants in the experiments that had soil with hydrogel and every day watering regiments during irrigation time. The measurements and data can reflect the durability and suitability of species for ecosystem restoration studies to be conducted in semi-arid areas
