ABSTRACT A SNAPSHOT OF THE COUNTY OF KAFİRNİ THROUGH THE SURVEYS OF 1845 Saraçoğlu, M. Safa M.S. in Department of Economics Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Huricihan İslamoğlu October, 1998, 97 pages This thesis tries to understand the new meanings of 'tax' and 'revenue' in the 19th century Ottoman context from a basic set of surveys and state decrees. The content of the surveys of 1 840 and 1 845 will be analyzed in order to compare them with each other and to draw a picture of county of Kafirni in the 19th century Ottoman Empire.
