Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı İngilizcenin yabancı dil olarak öğretiminde öğrenciler tarafından oluşturulan vodcastlerin öğrencilerin dil yeterliklerine ve İngilizce konuşma kaygısı düzeylerine etkisi olup olmadığını araştırmaktır. Karma araştırma yöntemiyle yapılan bu çalışmada hem nicel hem de nitel veriler toplanmıştır. Nicel veriler araştırmacı tarafından çalışmanın amacına uygun olarak hazırlanan İngilizce Yeterlik Testi ve Orakcı (2018) tarafından geliştirilen İngilizce Konuşma Kaygısı Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Nitel veriler ise çalışma kapsamında oluşturulan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile deney grubundan gönüllü olarak seçilen beş öğrenciden toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini ortaokul 7. sınıf düzeyinde eğitim gören tüm öğrenciler, çalışma evrenini Kahramanmaraş Nuri Pakdil Ortaokulu 7. sınıf öğrencileri, örneklemini ise birbirine denk olan iki şube oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmaya 24 deney grubunda, 24 de kontrol grubunda olmak üzere 48 öğrenci katılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, İngilizce Yeterlik Testi son-test sonuçlarında deney ve kontrol grubu arasında deney grubu lehine istatistikî olarak anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu görülmüştür. Bu sonuç vodcast öğrenme stratejisinin öğrencilerin İngilizce dil yeterliklerini geliştirmek için etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. İngilizce Konuşma Kaygısı Ölçeği son-test sonuçlarına göre ise iki grup arasında istatistikî olarak anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya çıkmamıştır. Bu sonuç vodcast öğrenme stratejisinin öğrencilerin İngilizce konuşma kaygı düzeyleri üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığını göstermektedir. Elde edilen nitel verilerin analizi sonucunda ise öğrencilerin İngilizce konusunda kaygı düzeylerinin azalması ile sınıf içi katılımda ve başarıda meydana gelen artışın özgüvenin yükselmesi ile sonuçlandığı görülmüştür. Nicel ve nitel olarak toplanan verilere dayanarak, İngilizce öğrenmede vodcast kullanımının öğrencilere hem akademik anlamda hem de duyuşsal anlamda katkı sağladığı söylenebilir.

The aim of this study is to investigate whether vodcasts created by students in teaching English as a foreign language have an effect on students' language proficiency and English speaking anxiety levels. In this study, which was carried out with the mixed research method, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Quantitative data were collected with the English Proficiency Exam prepared by the researcher in accordance with the purpose of the study and the English Speaking Anxiety Scale developed by Orakcı (2018). Qualitative data, on the other hand, were collected from five students voluntarily selected from the experimental group with the semi-structured interview form created within the scope of the study. The universe of the research consists of all students studying at secondary school 7th grade, the target population of the study consists of 7th grade students of Kahramanmaraş Nuri Pakdil Secondary School, and the sample consists of two classes that are equivalent to each other. 48 students, 24 in the experimental group and 24 in the control group, participated in the study. According to the findings, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group in the post-test results of the English Proficiency Test. This result reveals that the vodcast learning strategy is effective for improving students' English language proficiency. According to the English Speaking Anxiety Scale post-test results, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. This result shows that the vodcast learning strategy does not have a significant effect on the English speaking anxiety levels of the students. As a result of the analysis of the qualitative data obtained, it was seen that the decrease in the anxiety levels of the students about English and the increase in classroom participation and success resulted in an increase in self-confidence. Based on the data collected quantitatively and qualitatively, it can be said that the use of vodcast in English learning contributes to students both academically and emotionally.
