Özet
Increasing attention to the Internet of Things is regarded as one of the focal points for a platform business that can significantly increase value creation. The number of platforms built on IoTbased technology competes for market leadership. However, Information Systems studies have acknowledged that a platform's success highly depends on openness to create joint innovation while ensuring value capturing for all platform actors. Thus, the governance mechanism to manage its complexity derived from the openness turns out critical enabler for long-term success. Still, the platform governance research field on how governance mechanisms for the open IoT platforms should be configured is limited to help. This study reveals that four of six governance concepts are essential factors to apply when building a successful open IoT platform: (i) interoperability, (ii) network complexity, (iii) security design, and (iv) control mechanism. Besides, the mediator effect of go-to-market strategy on these concepts has been identified that influence the open IoT platform success. These findings provide a novel guideline for providers to decide how to configure governance mechanisms for future open IoT platforms. By conceptualizing the concepts, it extends the existing literature on platform governance and go-to-market strategies.
