Özet
The aim of this project is to model both near and sub-surface disposal facilities, taking an example of the constructed and conceptual design of Japanese disposal facilities by using the MCBEND radiation transport Monte Carlo code. Firstly, both near and sub-surface disposal facilities with their surroundings and waste packages placed inside the pits and vaults were modelled by inserting them into the codes of design specifications. Worst case scenario was investigated for the calculations of dose and activity of waste packages were determined according to the worst situation. For the near-surface disposal facility, an additional shielding platform was designed to block the emitting radiation in due course of placement of waste and being filled with backfill material. For the sub-surface disposal facility, three different shielding scenarios for the vaults were improved for the placement of waste in terms of the type of methods used for loading the waste. It was found that there was no radiation while loading the operation phase of the nearsurface facility thanks to the shielding platform designed for the pits. For the sub-surface disposal facility, it was demonstrated that all the shielding types designed for the vaults blocked all incoming radiation to the entrance of the vault, but the second method, in which a remote-controlled forklift was used, was chosen as the best method in terms of dose rates and loading method. Lastly, research was done on radiological environmental monitoring, and a simple monitoring program was set up by focusing on sampling and measuring methods.
