Özet
Bu tez, Erken Modern dönemde Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda riyazî ilimlerin nasıl üretildiğine ve hangi yollarla intikal ettiğine odaklanmaktadır. Riyazî ilimler hangi mekanlarda üretilmekteydi? Riyazî ilimlerin dolaşıma geçmesinde hangi sosyal ilişkiler etkili olmuştur? Riyazî ilimlerin üretilmesi ve dolaşımı süreçlerinde etken olan diğer yapısal faktörler nelerdir? Bu ve benzeri soruların cevapları aranacaktır. Bununla beraber, mesele biraz daha geniş kapsamlı ele alınarak Erken Modern dönemi konu alan tarihyazıcılığının yaklaşımları da tezin odak noktasına alınarak incelenmiştir. Tez, Osmanlı bilim tarihine daha geniş kapsamlı yaklaşılması ve bilim tarihini anlamlandırmada etken faktörlerin çeşitlendirilmesi gerekliliğini öne çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Tez, Osmanlı bilimine ve bilim tarihçiliğine dair her soruya cevap bulma iddiasından ziyade Osmanlı bilimine ve bilim tarihçiliğine dair bazı meseleleri sorunsallaştırmayı hedeflemektedir.

This thesis focuses on the ways in which mathematical sciences were produced and transmitted in the Early Modern Ottoman Empire. In which spaces were the mathematical sciences produced? Which social relations were instrumental in the circulation of the sciences? What are the other structural factors that played a role in the production and circulation of mathematical sciences? Answers to these and similar questions will be sought. In addition, the issue will be analysed in a more comprehensive manner, focusing on the approaches of historiography in the Early Modern period. The thesis aims to emphasise the need for a more comprehensive approach to the history of Ottoman science and the need to diversify the factors that makes contribution to the history of science. Rather than claiming to answer every question about the Ottoman science and the historiography of science, the thesis aims to problematise some of the issues related to the Ottoman science and the historiography of science.
