Soft-blasting as a surface treatment, is utilized in operations where there is need to alter the surface of a substrate by plastically deforming it with shot media impact. It is also applied to modify surface morphology of polymeric substrates. These morphology modifications can have a variety of motivations like the enhancement of the wettability, which is followed by the phenomenon that a surface with induced roughness exhibits a modified state of wettability depending on the original state of wettability and the level of surface modification. For the concept of this thesis, a numerical model of soft-blasting is created and validated with experimental findings. The created model is validated over several impacting sequences of Alumina shot powder onto Polycarbonate (PC) substrate material. Model considers parameters of the soft-blasting machine equipment as well as substrate and shot media material properties. For a process like soft-blasting, shot media irregularity is an aspect to consider. The model takes into account the randomness of impacting sequence based on shot particles geometrical properties and shape fractions. The model, with its being a valid interface for soft-blasting simulation, stands also as a reference for future studies where surface-related properties will be under examination after surface treatments such as soft-blasting.
