Özet
Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, imamlar dini mesaj aktarımı esnasında sahip oldukları retorikle hutbelerin cemaat üzerindeki rolünü ortaya koymaktır. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum çalışması ile tasarlanan bu çalışmanın evrenini 2023-2024 yılları içerisinde Gaziantep ili merkez ilçelerindeki cami cemaatleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemi ise tabakalı örnekleme yöntemine göre belirlenmiştir. Örneklem alınırken, rastgele camilerdeki cemaatler yerine sosyo-kültürel özellikleri farklı ileri, orta ve ileri düzey semtlerden genç, orta ve ileri yaş düzeyine sahip toplam 9 cami cemaati oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada katılımcılardan veri elde etmek amacıyla yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu oluşturulmuştur. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler bilgisayara aktarılarak betimsel ve içerik analizi yöntemleri ile analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler ile kodlar çıkarılmış ve bu kodlar; hitabet ve konuşma tekniğine sahip olmak, imam-hatibin kişiliği, karakteri ve duygusal söylemi, beden dili, jest ve mimikleri etkili kullanmak, imam-hatibin dış görünüşü ve hutbenin etkililiğini azaltan faktörler olmak üzere beş farklı tema altında toplanmıştır. En çok frekansa sahip olan kodlar ise imamın hutbeye hazırlıklı gelmesi, söylemleri ile eylemlerini birleştirmesi, sesini vurgulu kullanması, hutbeyi düz yazı gibi okumaması, tenkit ve tehdit dili kullanmaması, temiz ve düzenli giyinmesi, beden dilini hutbenin akışına göre aktif ve ölçülü kullanması kodları olmuştur. Katılımcılar imam-hatipte bu özelliklerin bulunması sonucunda hutbenin daha etkili olabileceğini dile getirmişlerdir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular kuramsal çerçeve ışığında tartışılmış, ulaşılan sonuçlar ifade edilerek hutbelerin daha etkili bir şekilde cemaatlere iletilebilmesi için imamlara önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The primary aim of this research is to elucidate the role of sermons delivered by Imams, focusing on their rhetorical skills in conveying religious messages to congregations. Designed as a case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, this study encompasses the congregations of mosques located in the central districts of Gaziantep province during the 2023-2024 period. The sample of the study was determined using the stratified sampling method. In selecting the sample, instead of randomly choosing congregations from various mosques, a total of nine mosque congregations from districts with different socio-cultural characteristics—ranging from low, middle, to high socio-economic levels—were included, with participants representing a range of young, middle-aged, and elderly demographics. To collect data from the participants, a semi-structured interview form was prepared. The data obtained were transferred to a computer and analyzed using descriptive and content analysis methods. Codes were derived from the data, which were then categorized under five main themes: possessing rhetorical and oratory skills, the personality and character of the Imam, the emotional tone of the Imam's speech, effective use of body language, gestures, and facial expressions, the outward appearance of the Imam, and factors that diminish the effectiveness of the sermon. The most frequent codes identified were the Imam's preparedness for the sermon, aligning speech with action, using vocal emphasis, avoiding reading the sermon as if it were plain text, refraining from using critical or threatening language, dressing neatly and appropriately, and using body language actively and measuredly according to the flow of the sermon. Participants expressed that the presence of these characteristics in an Imam would lead to more effective sermons. The findings from the study were discussed within a theoretical framework, and recommendations were made for Imams to deliver sermons more effectively to their congregations
