Özet
Unhealthy snacking has contributed to the development of many adverse health outcomes, notably including obesity and cardivascular diseases. While prior studies have found that work stress is an important predictor of unhealty snacking behaviour, little is known about the underlying mechanisms of this relationship. For instance, what is the influence of negative rumination as an explanatory, brrought upon by workplace incivility, on employee's unhealthy snacking behavior? To address this research gap, this current study explored the association leading to unhealthy snacking after work considering influence of uncivil acts and the role of negative rumination in the connection. Additionally, as individual factors are regarded important components for understanding snacking behaviors, the current study included two moderators: expressive suppresion in the relationship between daily workplace incivility and negative rumination, and impulsivity in the relationship between daily negative rumination and unhealthy snacking behaviors at bedtime. The reason for selecting these moderators is that individuals who exhibit impulsive behaviors and suppress negative emotions are more prone to having an increased vulnerability to developing cravings for snacks. Results from diary data during 2 working weeks (N=117) showed neither of the moderators enhanced the strength of each correlation, contray to the hypothesis. However, the study found a significant mediating role of negative rumination in the relationship between workplace incivility and unhealthy snacking. In conclusion, the study highlighted the harmful impacts of incivility and investigated how workplace stressors can lead to increased snacking. The study suggested that organizations should implement effective interventions to address both workplace incivility and the increased tendency for snacking due to stress.
