Agility skills are critical in sports performance, especially for football players, in terms of quick change of directions. Examination of both dimensions of agility (physical and cognitive) can help identify the factors that influence change of direction performance. Therefore, this study aims to eliminate non-essential skills for agility and focus on key skills to develop applicable recommendations for training programs. This research investigates the factors affecting agility performance. The participants of this study were 110 male football players (age: 16.6 ± 1.13, height: 177.2 ± 5.4, body weight: 69.8 ± 7.8, years of sports experience: 5.5 ± 2.7). The research began in mid-September 2023 and lasted for 8 weeks, during which measurements were taken from the athletes. Participants attended a total of 6 test sessions, held once or twice a week at specific times. To ensure the standardization of the tests, all tests were conducted in the same order, using the same equipment and measurement protocols. In the tests, 4 agility tests (Y-agility, 505 agility, T-agility, Star agility) were conducted along with anthropometric measurements, sprint tests, balance tests, jump tests, reaction and anticipation times, strength tests, joint range of motion, functional movement screening, and other physical and cognitive tests. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were performed for data analysis. The impact of independent variables on agility tests was examined through regression analysis. The main findings of this study show that agility tests correlate with age (r = -0.258/-0.570), speed (r = 0.395/0.637), balance (r = -0.301/-0.500), strength (r = -0.231/-0.596), power (r = -0.283/-0.466), reaction time (r = 0.260/0.654), anticipation time (r = -0.286/-0.516), joint range of motion (r = -0.222/-0.482), anthropometric measurements (r = -0.282/-0.325), and functional movement screening (r = -0.207/-0.624), all showing significant relationships (p<0.05). Regression analysis for determining the factors affecting agility performance revealed that agility performance is influenced by age (R2 = 0.04/0.23), speed (R2 = 0.06/0.57), balance (R2 = 0.11/0.43), strength (R2 = 0.09/0.62), power (R2 = 0.07/0.53), reaction and anticipation time (R2 = 0.03/0.56), joint range of motion (R2 = 0.06/0.20), anthropometric measurements (R2 = 0.01/0.15), body composition (R2 = 0.04/0.14), and functional movement screening (R2 = 0.02/0.43). In conclusion, the factors that most affect agility performance are age, straight speed, balance, reaction time (for open skills), anticipation time (for open skills), power parameters, leg and torso strength, joint range of motion, anthropometry, and functional movement skills. Training programs focused on these parameters can contribute to the development of agility performance.
