Aim: The objective of this study is to examine the effects of ballistic strength training applied through the blood flow restriction (BFR) method on strength development and sport-specific performance parameters in boxers. Specifically, this research investigates the contributions of lower and upper extremity muscle strength to punching power, as well as the potential advantages of this method in comparison to traditional training principles. Method: This cross-sectional study, designed with a full experimental model, was conducted with the participation of 15 male boxers (Experimental group: n=8, age: 17±0.53 years, height: 178±10 cm, body mass: 73±14 kg; Control group: n=7, age: 17±0.53 years, height: 176±4 cm, body mass: 70±6 kg). The experimental group underwent ballistic strength training utilizing the BFR method, while the control group did not receive any additional intervention. Findings: In the experimental group, statistically significant improvements (p<0.05) were observed between pre-test and post-test results in punching techniques (right and left jabs, hooks, and uppercuts) as well as in Isometric Midthigh Pull strength tests. Furthermore, significant enhancements were noted in explosive performance measurements, including vertical jumps, seated one-arm medicine ball throws, and dominant arm medicine ball throws within the experimental group. No significant changes were detected in these parameters in the control group. Conclusion: The findings indicate that ballistic strength training applied through the blood flow restriction method results in substantial improvements in the physical performance and sport-specific strength levels of boxers. These results suggest that BFR-based training may serve as an effective approach for enhancing strength and explosive performance in boxers, potentially surpassing traditional training methods.
