Prof. Dr. Eyüp Özveren Eylül 2000, 216 sayfa Bu tez, Avusturya ve kurumsal iktisat okullarının kurucularının, kurumların kökenini, evrimini, doğasım ve fonksiyonunu kavramsallaştırmalannı sorgulayan, karşılaştırmalı bir araştırma olarak tasarlanmaştır. Görünüşte zıt kutuplar olan bu iki iktisat okulu arasında belirli köprüler kurmak bu çalışmanın başlıca amacıdır. Bununla birlikte, tutarlı, kapsayıcı ve sağlam bir kurum kuramının inşasına ön ayak olabilecek bazı sentez olanakları da açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır. Öte yandan, J. A Schumpeter ve K. Polanyi'nin kurumsal konumlarını es geçen ilgili yazındaki genel eğilimin aksine, bu yazarların çalışmaları irdelenerek, tartışma genişletilecektir.

ABSTRACT AUSTRIAN AND INSTITUTIONAL ECONOMICS ON THE CONCEPTION OF INSTITUTIONS Özçelik, Emre M. Sc, Department of Economics Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüp Özveren September 2000, 216 pages This thesis is intended to be a comparative inquiry into the origin, evolution, nature and function of institutions as conceptualized by the founding fathers of Austrian and institutional economics. The principal aim here is to build particular bridges between these seemingly polar traditions in economics. Alongside that purpose, we will also try to reveal some synthesis possibilities to pave the way for the construction of a coherent, comprehensive and keen theory of institutions. On the other hand, in contradistinction to the common tendency in the relevant literature that overlooks the institutional aspects of J. A. Schumpeter and K. Polanyi, the discussion will be broadened by delving into the respective works of these two figures.
