The aim of this study is to examine whether the PISA 2022 data demonstrate differential item functioning (DIF) across country, grade, and gender variables, as well as when analyzed through different methods. The dataset consists of data from Turkey, Hungary, and the United Kingdom. Ninth- and tenth-grade students were included in the study. In this context, Form 1 of the mathematics subtest was selected, and the 50 items in this form were included in the analyses. Before conducting DIF analyses, missing data analyses were carried out, followed by descriptive statistics, and reliability and validity studies. DIF analyses were performed using the Mantel-Haenszel (MH), Logistic Regression (LR), and Rasch Tree (RAY) methods. For country comparisons, the following pairs were analyzed: Turkey–Hungary, Turkey–United Kingdom, and Hungary–United Kingdom. For grade level, ninth- and tenth-grade groups were compared, and for gender, female–male groupings were considered. The analyses revealed that the MH method identified the largest number of items showing DIF. The RAY analyses flagged a moderate number of items in the context of countries, while LR identified only a single item. Regarding the gender variable, the MH method detected DIF in multiple items, whereas LR and RAY did not identify DIF for gender. With respect to grade level, the MH method marked a high number of items as DIF, offering the most comprehensive set of findings. In contrast, LR did not detect DIF in terms of grade, while RAY selectively flagged a limited number of items, particularly within specific subgroups (e.g., the Hungarian subgroup).
