In this thesis, we evaluate the Ash'ari thought, one of the main schools of Islamic thought, which rejects the principle of causality, which is among the principles that have extremely important effects on the shaping and development of the history of thought, and we assess this rejection in light of their theories of creation. This principle is posited as a necessity in explaining the formation and dissolution that occur in the universe. Accordingly, the discussions on cause and effect have not only shaped ideas about nature, but the conclusions drawn from them have also led to certain results in the field of metaphysics. Indeed, it has found a place in explanations, especially regarding the acts of God. Causality, or illiyyah in the classical terminology, possesses a highly comprehensive conceptual content aimed at explaining the relationships between beings, events, and actions. It constitutes one of the central problem areas of both natural philosophy and metaphysics. Within the limits of this study, the reasons behind the Ashʿarite rejection of the principle of necessary causality are examined, and in this context, the school's conception of creation is analyzed through its doctrine of tajdīd al-amthāl (continuous re-creation). Instead of accepting the existence of a necessary and ontological causal connection between events and actions in the world, the Ashʿarites maintain that such relations occur only through the continuous intervention of the divine will and merely in accordance with habitual regularity (ʿāda). This approach demonstrates that the order observable in nature is grounded not in intrinsic causal necessity, but in God's uninterrupted act of creation at every moment. In this framework, the constant re-creation of substances—especially accidents—indicates that the continuity observed in existence does not arise from an inherent necessity of things themselves, but from the stability of divine custom. The persistence of things in a manner that appears consistent and observable to us is thus explained in direct relation to the doctrine of ʿāda. In this way, order and continuity in the universe are preserved, yet this order is attributed not to immanent natural laws, but to God's perpetual creative act. As a natural consequence of this theoretical structure, the issues of human action, moral responsibility, and freedom acquire particular significance. For within an ontological framework in which all acts are continuously created by the divine will, fundamental questions arise regarding how human beings can be held responsible for their actions, in what sense their freedom can be grounded, and upon what basis moral values are to be established. From this perspective, the doctrine of tajdīd al-amthāl not only offers a cosmological explanation, but also presents a profound intellectual framework for understanding the relationship between divine will, human freedom, and moral responsibility.
