Özet
ÖZET Türkiye 1950'^ yıllardan itibaren kırdan kente göç sonucu oluşan hızlı kentleşme ve kentleşmeye bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan gecekondu olgusu ile karşı karşıya bulunmaktadır. Geçen elli yıllık süreç içinde, gecekondulu nüfusun toplam kentsel nüfus içindeki payı alman tüm önlemlere rağmen sürekli olarak artış göstermiştir. Bugün gecekondularda yaşayan nüfus toplam kentsel nüfusun üçte birini oluşturmaktadır. Bu açıdan genç bir yaş yapısına sahip olan deneyimsiz, niteliksiz ve düşük eğitimli bu büyük kitlenin istihdam durumu gerçekten çok önemli bir konuyu oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile İzmir'in bir gecekondu mahallesi olan Kuruçeşme'de yaşayan nüfusun genel nitelikleri, istihdam durumu ve sorunları tespit edilmek istenmektedir. Çalışma üç bölümden oluşmaktır. Temel kavramların tanıtımına ve Türkiye'de gecekondulaşmanın çeşitli boyutları incelenmesine birinci bölümde yer verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde, Türkiye'de ve gecekondularda yaşayan nüfusun genel nitelikleri ve istihdam yapıları üzerinde durulmuştur. Üçüncü bölümde ise, Kuruçeşme'de gecekondularda yaşayan nüfusun genel nitelikleri ve istihdam yapışma ait bulgular " sunularak, sonuç ve öneriler geliştirilmiştir. Ayrıca bu bölümde Ege Bölgesi'nde ve İzmir ilinde nüfusun ve istihdamın yapısı genel olarak incelenmiştir.

ABSTRACT The problem of squatters which appeared as a result of the rapid urbanization owing to the immigration from rural areas to urban areas has confronted Turkey since the 1950s During the past fifty years, in spite of all the measures taken, the population of squatter areas in cities has constantly been on the increase. Today, the people living in squatter areas constitute the one third of urban population. Therefore, the employment of these people who are relatively young, inexperienced, unqualified and uneducated is really an important problem to cope with. This study aims to determine the employment structure, the general aspects and the problems of the people living in Kuruçeşme, a squatter area of Izmir. The study is formed by three sections. In the first section the presentation of basic concept and the examination of different dimention of squaatter housing in Turkey were explained. In the second section, the general quality and employment constructions of people who live in squaatter areas and in Turkey were disputed. In the third section, finding belong to the general quality and employment construction of population who live in squaatters in Kuruçeşme were offered and conclusions and suggestions were developed. In addition; in this section the costruction of population and employment in the city of Izmir antj fne region of Ege were generally examined.
