ABSTRACT THE MAIN DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS EDUCATION SCIENTIFIC BRANCH OF MUSIC SECTION THE CONTRIBUTION OF FOREING VIOLINISTS TO MUSIC EDUCATION IN TURKEY DEMET ERGEN ( Post Graduate Thesis ) Music education is the process of bringing out desired changes in the behaviours of individuals towards playing the violin through teaching how to play the violin. The education of violin playing, which goes back to a remote past, starting from pre-republic era, developed intensively and significantly during the Republican period with the help of the violinists coming from abroad by planning and inviting officially, and so it has reached to our present time thanks to both those foreigners and the students having been educated by them. Especially in the last ten year, aftermath the collapsing of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, a considerable number of violin educators came to our country and they have still been working in our institutions which are dealing with the activities of playing the violin. in this study which is dealt with the intention of researching the foreign violin educators' contribution to our music education aims to achieve adequate information about these foreigners by providing proper answers to the questions, within the frame of the main question, such as the reasons why those educators came to our country, what countries they came from, and for which institutions their graduated students prefer to work. During the research those foreign violin educators who are now working in Turkey have been personally visited and their conditions have been tried to make clear by face to face interview. It has been understood that most of those foreign violin educators working in Turkey came from Turkic republicans, they have the certificate of state artist, that they have completed their academic study along with these social ranks, and some of them have been understood they worked in some conservatoires. It has been concluded that these educators have shown their artistic and educators identifications in the most positive way, especially that the graduates who had been educated by those foreigners who came to Turkey in 1930s have contributed to the Turkish Music education and that these contributions have continued up to present-day Turkey. Nowadays, thanks to method of making use of those foreign violin educators who are experts in their own branches with their vast knowledge, applicable experiences and competent approaches, qualified artists and educators have been educated and educating quality has been improving, which has effected the medium of our domestic music education in a positive way.
