Özet
Abstract Personal Success, Group Success, Self Construal and Ih-group Favoritism by Hüseyin Yurtdaş The major aim of the present study was to search for the relationship of personal success, group success, self-construal, and in-group favoritism where the in- group is the nation. Moreover, the relationship between group identity and in-group favoritism and the effect of socio-economic status on in-group favoritism, national identity and self-construal was examined. Fifty-nine blue-collar workers, 54 clerical workers and 52 professionals filled out inventories about personal success, group success, in-group favoritism, self-construal and national identity, and a demographic scale. The study failed to find that among individuals who consider themselves successful and Turkey unsuccessful, those who have higher independent self construals show less in-group favoritism towards their nation (in-group) than those who have lower independent self construals and that those who have higher interdependent self construals show more in-group favoritism than those with lower interdependent self construals. It was demonstrated that among individuals who consider themselves successful and the nation (in-group) unsuccessful those who had lower SES engaged in more in-group favoritism. Moreover, it was shown that the relationship between national identity and in-group favoritism was strong and that low SES led to more national identity, more in-group favoritism and higher interdependent self-construal.
