Özet
Üniversiteler, kurulduklarından bu yana bireysel ve sosyal gelişimin yanında bulundukları yörenin ekonomik kalkınmasında da önemli rol oynamaktadırlar. Bu çalışma, gelişmiş ülkelerdeki üniversitelerden örnekler vererek üniversitelerin bulundukları şehir ve bölgede ne denli önemli bir ekonomik güç olduğunu gösterdikten sonra, Selçuk Üniversitesi'nin Konya'nın ekonomik gelişimine ve kent merkezindeki ticaret bölgesine etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. İlk aşamada Selçuk Üniversitesi'nin Konya'nın ekonomisine olan etkileri değerlendirilmiş ve Selçuk Üniversitesi'nin yöre ekonomisine olan direkt, dolaylı ve uyarılmış gelir ve istihdam etkileri hesaplanmıştır. Selçuk Üniversitesi, öğrenci sayısı açısından Türkiye'nin en büyük ikinci üniversitesidir. Hesaplanan ekonomik verilere göre harcamaları ile yöre ekonomisinde en büyük gelir ve istihdam katkısını yarattığı saptanan öğrenciharcamalarının incelenmesi, araştırmanın bir sonraki aşamasını oluşturmaktadır. Bu kısımda Konya kent merkezindeki üç farklı kampusta öğrenim gören 1000 öğrenci üzerinde yapılan anket çalışması ile öğrenci harcamalarının hangi sektörlerde yoğunlaştığı ve öğrencilerin kent içinde nerelerden bu harcamaları gerçekleştirdikleri irdelenmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda Selçuk Üniversitesi'nin Konya'daki gelir ve istihdam rakamına olan katkıları hesaplanarak öğrenci harcamalarının sektörlere ve kent içindeki ticaret mekanlarına dağılımı ortaya konmuştur.

Besides their individual and social effects from the date of then- establishment, universities also play an important role in the economic development of the city in which they are located. After emphasizing the importance of the universities for the regional and urban economic growth by giving some examples from the universities in developed countries, this study aims at investigating the impact of Selçuk University to the economic development of Konya and the commercial areas of the city center. In the first step, economic the impact of Selçuk University to Konya's economy was evaluated by calculating the direct, indirect and induced effects of the university. mSelçuk University takes the second place among the Turkish universities according to the number of students. The student expenditures, which constituted the largest impact on the local earnings and employment according to the results obtained from the first step analysis, were examined in the second step. In this section, the shares of the sectors in students' expenditures and the location of them in the city were examined by survey of 1000 students who attended the three campuses located in Konya city center. At the end of the study, earning and employment effects of Selçuk University and the impact of students' expenditures to the sectors and their distribution in the commercial areas of Konya were demonstrated.
